Basement digging part 1
We found out last week they would be digging our basement first thing Monday morning. So Sunday night we headed out to the ground to get one last look before the dig...

ROCK
We found this humungo rock when they dug up the lane.
Sorry for being MIA in blogland lately. Real life got in the way. Annoying right?
We will be back next week with some DIY posts and even house building updates!
Do you ever have to take a blog break because you are too busy/lazy?
Who else is ready for the weekend? Longest.Week.Ever.

Party time.
We had a few bonfires out at the land already. It's been super nice fall weather lately so we invited a few friends, picked up some beer and marshmallows (yay!!) and had a bonfire party. We had a great time.
Unfortunately since the lane is not in yet our friends had to park along the road, and trek all the way back to the clearing in the dark. But, thanks to cell phones, everyone has a flashlight in their pocket nowadays.
The party spot the next day.

Can you guess which one is my seat?

Smokey the Bear would not be pleased.
Adam has been working hard to clear the area where the lane and house will be built.
Smokey the Bear would not be happy with what we did with part of the branches and bushes...
Scout checking out Adam's favorite toy.
Father in Law helping half branches.
Boys checking out their hard work.
It did take forever for that pile to get burning.
Break/snuggle time.
Snack time. (twigs?)

Hey look! A big tube.
The culvert is ready to be put in. As soon as the road commissioner gets his butt out there to finish the job.
Basically, this will allow vehicles to drive over the little ditch and where the lane will start once we get it cleared.
Really, it's not that exciting because it just looks like a big silver tube laying there. Which is what it actually is.
Tubage.
Next, we will start clearing out all that bush & those darn trees.

Scout is not impressed with legal documents.
The warranty deed and the title insurance have arrived from the attorney's office. We signed the papers a month or so ago but it takes awhile for things to get processed on both ends.
I wish I could tell you more about this side of the land purchase process but honestly I just had to sign my name a few times. I was only in the attorney's office for 3 minutes.
We wrote the check for the land + a check for the fees to the attorney---it was easy as pie.

What it looks like now.
I mentioned that the land was all trees and brush and stuff. Hard to believe there will be a house here next year.
I helped. See.
I said there is a creek. Bishop Creek.
There's Adam doing measuring/surveying.
Measuring tools.
Adam explained to me that having a part of Bishop Creek on your property is prime real estate in this area. Fancy.
Scout enjoyed the fancy creek too.
Wet dog.

The First Step: A place to build.
Our building site:
The property stretches a few wooded acres. Plenty of room for Scout to run.
Our street name is going to be something like 103847 County Road Etc... Something real easy to remember!
I'm concerned I may not have cell phone reception out there.
We'll have a creek in our back yard.
We purchased the land from a family member, and the property has been in the family like 150 years. a.k.a. forever.
There is no road to get there yet. Gotta walk through the timber, bushes, and weeds. Long sleeves, long pants, and a hat!
